The project also includes the Cook Street enhancement, which provides connectivity and traffic calming for the school, library, STA and community center directly across the street. It also provided a tie-in to the Children of the Sun Trail and includes concrete plazas, playground equipment and landscaping enhancements to provide an open campus from the community center all the way through to the NewTech Skills Center. The Shaw Middle School portion is a 155,000 SF building with 41 classrooms, kitchen, administration offices, gymnasium and the Hillyard branch of the Spokane Public Library. The On Track Academy is a 51,000 SF building with 13 classrooms and shop spaces, creative suites for arts and earth science, STEM labs, a commons, administration offices and a community outreach center.
