Washington State Penitentiary Housing Expansion

Purpose‑built housing additions increased institutional capacity through efficient planning, precise fabrication, and seamless integration with existing facilities.
The WSP Housing and Kitchen Expansion added two new 45,000 SF medium-security housing units along with a remodel and expansion of an existing kitchen facility to support the increased inmate population at the Washington State Penitentiary. Constructed with precast concrete cells and wall panels and a joist‑and‑deck roofing system, the housing units were carefully coordinated through mockups and close collaboration with penitentiary staff to ensure precise fabrication and installation without rework. The project also included extensive security electronics and taut‑wire upgrades throughout the campus, all completed within an active, occupied correctional environment. The expansion increased facility capacity by 512 additional offenders and represents one of multiple long‑term improvement projects delivered at the penitentiary.
