Built to modernize county justice services and relieve long‑standing overcrowding, this multi‑facility program expands detention capacity, enhances operational efficiency, and supports long‑term growth across the campus. The new Grant County Jail introduces a 133,000 SF, 512‑bed facility that consolidates booking, medical and infirmary care, food service, laundry, sally‑port operations, and administrative functions into a single, purpose‑built building. Complementary facilities include a two‑story, 32,000 SF Sheriff’s Office, a 10,000 SF Evidence Building, and a regional K9 training center. The existing 80,000 SF law and justice building—currently housing the jail and courts—is being renovated to add courtrooms and clerk spaces, improving service delivery and public access.

Core operational areas such as booking, kitchen, laundry, sally‑port, infirmary, and administration are intentionally sized for future expansion, allowing the county to increase capacity to 1,024 inmates without interrupting ongoing operations. This approach directly addresses current overcrowding, with the existing jail housing 135 inmates as of mid‑2024—most of whom will be consolidated into a single pod once the new facility is complete. Infrastructure improvements, including upgraded sewer, water, and reclaimed‑water systems, further support the campus and its long‑term operational needs.

Construction is sequenced to maintain continuous operations. The initial phase delivers the new jail and relocates both the inmate population and the Sheriff’s Office into the new facilities. Subsequent phases remodel the existing jail and court building while it remains occupied, expanding the court system and modernizing public‑facing spaces. Durable exterior materials, secure site planning, and functional design elements reinforce safety and efficiency while creating a cohesive, adaptable justice campus for the county.
