Washington State Penitentiary Health Services Expansion

A modern medical hub designed for reliability, this facility supports critical care services while advancing resource‑conscious construction practices.
This 50,000 SF Health Services Building replaces an aging hospital facility and serves as the primary medical provider for the penitentiary population. The building includes 60 inpatient beds, close-watch rooms, exam and procedure rooms, imaging and X-ray suites, optometry, and pharmacy services, delivering comprehensive, on-site healthcare within a secure environment. Designed with sustainability as a core goal, the project achieved LEED® Silver certification through efficient building systems, reuse of existing infrastructure to minimize excavation, and adoption of digital medical technologies to reduce hazardous waste. More than 21 percent of recycled materials were used in the construction, and 88 percent of the construction waste was recycled.
