PNNL Physical Sciences Facilities

The Physical Sciences Facility delivers secure, mission‑critical laboratory environments through specialized research spaces, robust security systems, and high‑efficiency infrastructure.
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Physical Sciences Facility is a nearly 200,000 SF research complex supporting advanced energy, national, and homeland security missions. The facility includes three multi‑story laboratories focused on materials science, ultra‑trace analysis, and radiation detection, along with a low‑level underground laboratory, a large detector lab, a central utility plant, and a radiation monitoring test track. The building was built to follow strict security and performance rules from the DOE and includes special areas like radiochemistry labs, clean rooms, glove boxes, specialty gas systems, and radiological monitoring, along with strong access control and surveillance systems. High‑efficiency electrical, mechanical, and exhaust systems support complex research operations, while comprehensive site and utility improvements complete the campus. The project achieved LEED® Silver certification.
