The Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) building at Spokane International Airport was delivered to support an upgraded snow removal fleet required to meet current FAA runway standards. In an environment that averages 6.6 million SF of annual runway snow removal, the facility supports equipment capable of clearing runways in under 20 minutes. The building includes a 14,500 SF maintenance shop and a 32,000 SF vehicle storage area connected by a covered breezeway. The new maintenance facilities include integrated fluid systems, in‑floor radiant heat, a 5‑ton bridge crane, areas for welding and machining, and an in‑ground vehicle lift, while the storage area includes oversized vehicle bays, wash facilities, material storage, and loading access. Designed with energy‑efficient systems to reduce operational demands, the project was delivered as a Design‑Bid‑Build effort and achieved LEED® Gold certification as the airport’s first LEED‑certified facility.
