Safety Builds Success!Tom Mauer Safety Award

Lydig Construction?s safety program is progressive, inclusive and effective.

Progressive

  • Four full-time safety professionals lead Lydig's Safety Program.  Three are Registered Safety Officers and one is the on-site Safety Director for larger projects.
  • These safety specialists conduct ongoing in-house training for all superintendents and foreman, providing continuing education in safety procedures, current OSHA and DOSH regulations and First Aid/CPR.
  • The team works closely with Lydig's subcontractors to ensure they have approved project-specific safety plans posted before they mobilize.
  • Regular jobsite safety audits ensure safety compliance by all trades and all workers.
  • Lydig Safety Officers regularly coordinate with insurance industry representatives to maintain current industry standards.

 Inclusive

  • Every Lydig employee is critical to the success of our safety program and in achieving our goal of a zero incident rate.
  • Lydig has two Safety Incentive programs.
    • On-site barbeque lunches for all workers with generous rewards and gifts distributed for project crews with outstanding safety records.
    • Employee Safety Recognition Awards for workers who submit ideas to improve Lydig's Safety Program.
  • Lydig's Safety Committee is comprised of a cross-section of employees and publishes Lydig's monthly safety newsletter, the Hard Hat Herald.
  • All Lydig Superintendents and Project managers participate in mandatory, semi-annual safety training meetings.

 Effective

  • Lydig is one of only a handful of General Contractors which have achieved self-insured status for Workers Compensation in Washington State.
  • Lydig's incident rate is far below the national average.
  • Vice President of Safety, Doug Lydig, won the Inland NW AGC Tom Mauer Safety Award in 2005.
  • Lydig was a Finalist in the 2005 AGC of Washington Construction Safety & Excellence Awards.
